About Heartland Singles

Heartland Singles' ministry is open to all types of single adults including single parents, divorced singles and dating couples.

Heartland Singles' Ministry is organized by generation. Why generations and not 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's? Generations grow older together. You will not "graduate" into or out of your generation. So once you establish community among your peers, you will not be asked to move into or out of the group because you had a birthday. Communtiy is hard enough to find without being asked to "move on" for an arbitrary reason.

Heartland Singles' Ministry is for anyone wanting to find faith in Christ or trying to live out that faith as a single person. It doesn’t matter if you’re exploring faith, growing in faith, or faithfully following Christ; you will be spiritually encouraged and able to encourage others to grow spiritually.

Heartland Singles' Ministry encourages friendships to move from surface conversations towards the deep waters of real life. At the same time we try to never take ourselves too seriously.
Hearltand Singles' Ministry creates opportunities to experience people in need through our “Days of Mercy” serving opportunities designed to help you make a difference in other people’s lives.

Heartland Singles' Ministry leadership teams plan monthly events/parties, Days of Mercy, and lunches twice a month. In addition to these opportunities, we encourage community members to post any get togethers they have planned on their generation's message board. The more willing you are to get involved the more opportunities you will find to be involved.

Heartland Singles' Ministry is a ministry of Heartland Community Church with participants from over fifty area churches. You do not need to attend Heartland Community Church to be involved in Heartland's Singles' Ministry.

Heartland Singles' Miinistry is dedicated to "Helping Singles Live Well Single" by providing ways to Gather Together, Grow in Christ and Go Serve with other single adults.

Our History

Heartland Singles' Ministry was originally called "Fusion" for many years. Fusion was established in 1996 by a group of friends attending Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). While BSF met their need for spiritual growth, these friends felt a need to create a social alternative to Kansas City’s nightlife. They began planning events and inviting their Christian and non-Christian friends to come hang out with them.

The group grew and began to hold a service with music, teaching, and discussions and started planning larger events and trips. Fusion began meeting in various homes, coffee houses and bars to accommodate their growth.

Fusion leadership approached Heartland Community Church leaders early in the group’s life to ask for accountability, while maintaining its autonomy. Fusion out lasted many of the coffee shops and bars it met in until it was decided to begin meeting on site at Heartland Community Church.

In 2009, Fusion leadership made three major decisions

1) Discontinue our worship service in favor of focusing our leadership and volunteer energies on creating, monthly social events, serving opportunities, and a new learning format designed to address issues specific to the single person's lifestyle.

2) Change Fusion's name to "Heartland Singles" in an effort to make it easier for new people to find us instead of always needing to define the term "Fusion" for everyone.

3) Begin organizing the ministry by generation so that we can more effectively attract single people on either side of the Generation-X age range.

These changes have opened up many opportunities for ministry to be focused and to grow. We look forward to how God will continue shaping Heartland Singles' Ministry to reach the singles population of Kansas City for Christ. We welcome you to join us as we "Help Singles Live Well Single".

• Have a unique freedom to serve Christ and humanity their married friends don’t possess
• Have a unique set of needs and pains their married friends don’t experience

• Must address the unique needs singles face
• Must help singles grow spiritually
• Must promote building strong relationships
• Must guard the integrity of this ministry
• Must help singles respond to other people’s needs
