1st - 5th Grade
Great Adventure
Sunday mornings at 9 and 11 a.m. in the Great Adventure room.
For kids in first grade to those having completed fifth grade.
The staff and volunteers are committed to making the Bible real to kids through creative large group teaching and intimate small group relationships.
Our curriculum is virtue based and is communicated through music, creative drama, and a bible lesson. Each kid is connected with a group of their peers and a dedicated small group leader. We have teams of volunteers who strive to make it the best hour of the week for your kids.
We would like to help your family talk about the weekly virtues and Bible stories through "fridge door" available when you pick up your child.

Posted: Mar 05 2010
Ahoy Mateys! Families with kids 3 years old to 5th grade are invited to sign up for Heartland Family Adventure where we will be exploring the mighty love of God! HFA is July 12th-15th at Heartland. The Adventure starts at 6pm and ends at 7:45 with a little time at the end for cookies from the galley. Kids and parents will stay together to sing, laugh, learn, do crafts, service projects and play games. For the last part of the evening kids will be entertained with more stories and games while the parents listen to parenting wisdom from a pastor. Space is limited to the first 400 children. Don't worry if you have younger children, there will be free baby-sitting for them. The cost is $20 per child. You can find FAQs on this page and registration here. Heartland Family Adventure-FAQs
Posted: Mar 05 2010
Q. When is HFA?
A. July 12-15, 6:00-7:45 for Adventure, 7:45 cookies.
Q. Where is HFA?
A. At Heartland at 12175 S Strang Line Rd, Olathe KS
Q. How old do my kids need to be?
A. They must be 3 by July 12th through going into 6th grade.
Q. Can I drop my kids off?
A. No, this is a family event and every kid must have a parent
Q. Is this in place of Summer Bible Camp?
A. Yes, we think there are lots of good reasons to make this an all family, can’t miss, event.
Q. Can I volunteer?
A. If you are a parent that has a child participating you can volunteer for some things we need done in advance. The week of HFA you will want to be with your child. If you don’t have kids participating we would love to have you volunteer and be a part of the week!
Q. Will kids and parents be together all evening?
A. Kids and parents will be together most of the evening singing, playing, making crafts and enjoying each other’s company. For the last segment of every evening parents will be in the auditorium listening to a pastor teach about being the faith shaper in the home. Meanwhile the kids will be watching a bible story skit, Chadder video or playing games.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. $20 per child up to 3 children in a family. All kids after that are free.
Q. Is there financial assistance?
A. We do not want the cost of HFA to keep a family from joining us for this fun week. Please contact Sara Stauffer (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if the cost is an issue for your family. We want every family who wants to participate in HFA get to be a part of this amazing experience!"
Q. What if I have children under 3.
A. Bring them! Just let us know. We will have free child care for them.
Q. Will there still be college interns like at Summer Bible Camp?
A. Yes, there will still be interns around but they will not be small group leaders. You and your kids should make every effort to get to know them!
Q. Can I invite a friend that doesn’t attend Heartland?
A. Yes, but have them sign up early. Because of the limitations of our facility we have to limit enrollment to 400 kids.
Q. Will Great Adventure and Great Beginnings kids be together?
A. They will be together some of the time and they will do separate things some of the time.
Q. What do I do if I have a Great Beginning age child and a Great Adventure age child?
A. Good question! We would like your family to get to stay together. This year you decide which station you want to go to and how long you want to stay there. It’s just like when the family goes to Worlds of Fun, sometimes people have to compromise on what they want to do next but the family still has fun together!
Q. Will you serve dinner this year?
A. No but we encourage you to eat as a family at one of our many restaurants in the neighborhood.
Help Heartland Kids have an Awesome Easter!

Easter is a busy Sunday at Heartland's Children's Ministry. We will provide children's ministry at the Saturday 5pm and the Sunday 9am and 11am services. We could use some extra hands because we have lots of kids. If you would like to help make Easter a fun, safe and meaningful service for kids please let us know which time and what age group you would like to serve. We would love to help kids fall in love with Jesus, not the Easter Bunny. Contact Sara Stauffer (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
Heartland Great Adventure Kids are Going to Camp!
Posted: Jan 09 2010
Want to go to a mini week of summer camp? Here's your chance! Heartland has spots reserved for 20 boys and 20 girls, July 22-24 and YouthFront Camp South. Those spots are for kids entering 3-5th grade next summer and it's only $150 if you register by February 15th. The best way to find out information and register is by going to YouthFront's web site here. Be sure to register for week 7B at South Camp to be with the Heartland group. If it says "full" ignore it and keep registering. Camp is full but our 40 spots are not filled. For you kids that have been before, notice we are at SOUTH CAMP this year. Its a new location but just as much fun!
Cold and Flu Season and the H1N1 Virus

We all want our kiddos to share…but when it comes to illness, we want to keep any sharing to a minimum! So we ask that parents help us out by not bringing a sick child to church youth programs. Doing so creates the risk of sharing the illness with other children, and it’s also rough for the sick child who’d be better off resting in the comfort of his or her own home.
Wondering whether or not your child is too sick to participate? The answer is probably ‘yes’ if the child displays one or more of the following symptoms:
- Fever above 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the past 24 hours
- Signs of possible severe illness such as uncontrolled coughing, difficulty breathing, wheezing, persistent crying or lethargy
- Diarrhea, such as loose or runny stools including a stool that runs out of a diaper
- Vomiting (once a child has vomited, most health providers recommend or require that the child not return to school or daycare for a minimum of 24 hours)
- Any rash, especially one accompanied by a fever or behavior change
- Any communicable disease (in this case, please notify the church so that parents of exposed children can be alerted)
Parents in Small Groups
Posted: Dec 11 2009
We now ask parents who call Heartland their home to serve in Children's Ministry. We know parents need to be the primary faith builders in a family to have the greatest impact on their kids. We also think that Heartlands classrooms and small groups for kids are the best spiritual labs we have. We are asking parents to serve once a month, but if you are able to serve twice a month as a room leader or small group leader that will help fill our highest need. We understand that some parents are currently in stormy circumstances that make serving impossible. We extend grace to them. We are confident that you will have deeper and richer conversations about faith with your kids if you learn beside them on Sunday mornings. You do not have to serve with the same age as your child/children. Please sign up here. On question number three please mark "children's leader". After filling out the form you will hear from a Children's ministry staff member. Together Heartland and parents can help kids fall in love with Jesus!
Volunteer In Children’s Ministry
Posted: Dec 11 2009
Children's Ministry is looking for teens and adults interested in investing in the lives of the next generation. We need people to serve every other week as a small group leader for grade school or a room leader for birth through kindergarten. Our kids are the future worship leaders, preachers, missionaries and leaders of the church. You can be a part of helping them fall in love with Jesus. We especially encourage parents to serve. Our classrooms and small groups are an excellent laboratory for parents to learn how to be the primary faith builders in their homes. Ready to sign up? Questions? Contact Sara Stauffer.
