History

Heartland Community Church was founded in 1986 as a part of the Evangelical Presbyterian denomination. It's original name "Evangelical Presbyterian Church" came from the denominational ties. This name was officially changed to Heartland Community Church in the fall of 1990. Watch the video below to learn more about our roots.

Our Story

"Then He said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.'" - Matthew 9:37-38

Through dynamic teaching, compelling worship, key program events and leadership development, Heartland Community Church provides ministry and outreach opportunities for those who might be skeptical, uncomfortable or unfamiliar with church.

Craig McElvain Our journey began in June of 1986, when 28 committed believers gathered together in His name to plant a church — one dedicated to loving, educating, serving and advancing God's kingdom here in the Heartland. It began small, with Senior Pastor Craig McElvain teaching from an ironing board-pulpit in a family's basement on Sunday mornings. Through steadfast prayer, spirit-led planning and word of mouth, the congregation grew steadily and branched out to larger venues. In 1990, we formally changed our name to Heartland Community Church and purchased our current site in Overland Park, KS

After 19 years at 8301 Lamar in Overland Park and planting six additional churches, Heartland has outgrown its home and is moving to Olathe! Learn more about our new home by clicking here.
