Exit Interviews Series Launches this Sunday
As you know, we're kicking off our Sunday 5pm service this Sunday (January 8th) with a fantastic series called Exit Interviews – Why People Leave their Faith and the Church". We'll be tackling reasons why people have left the church such as Hypocrisy, the Generation Gap and Science. You won't want to miss it.
Our Cupboards are Bare - Food Drive 1.22
In 2011, the Heartland Food Pantry distributed over 145 boxes of groceries. Each box contained a weeks-worth of food (with meal ideas and recipes) for a family of four. That's a lot of food!
On January 22, we will conduct a church-wide food drive to replenish the food pantry so we can continue to bless those in our church and community. We ask that you purchase new items from this shopping list. Volunteers will collect the items at the Heartland entrances before Sunday services. Of course, food donations are welcome all year …simply place items in the collection barrels located in the atrium. Thanks for helping feed those in need.
Deep Dive Theology Class
We’re kicking off a new 6-session Deep Dive Theology Class on Wednesday, January 11: Deep Dive 7 – the Doctrine of the Church!
In this “Dive”, we’ll tackle questions like: What is the purpose of the church? How should church discipline function? How should a church be governed? What do we miss if we neglect involvement in a local church? What does it mean to worship in spirit and in truth? Have some spiritual gifts ceased?
You do not have to have participated in previous Deep Dives to take part in this “Dive”. But you do need to sign up in advance, get the book, and complete a pre-class assignment before the class kicks off. To sign up and get all of the class details, click here.

Love and Logic Class begins January 10th!
Do you want to have responsible, respectful, and fun to be around kids? Do you want to be responsible, respectful and fun to be around parents? Are you wondering if those are just rhetorical questions? Well they're not! You can move towards those goals by joining the class Becoming a Love and Logic Parent facilitated by Angela Horton. We will learn together how you can respond with empathy before you deliver a consequence. You will learn about setting firm limits and helping your kids have a healthy self-concept. There are openings for ten families meeting weekly on Tuesday evenings, January 10th-February 7th, 7:00-8:30. The cost is $10 for the workbook and $40 if you need childcare. Sign up here. Questions? Contact Angela Horton.
Great Adventure Parent Open House - Sunday 1.22
Parent Open House in The Great Adventure When you drop off and pick up in the Great Adventure and it looks a little lively, do you wonder what happens in between? All parents are invited to come to the Great Adventure on January 22nd at the 9:00 or 11:00 service instead of going to the auditorium. You can sit with your kid/kids and worship with us, watch great teaching dramas and learn what's shared in small group time. Be prepared to sit on the floor and have a lot of fun while you learn about God.
Friends of Special Needs Needed
Heartland's special needs ministry, Through the Roof, is a growing vibrant group of kids, moms, dads, siblings and volunteers. Once a month Heartland hosts a Family Night Out for Through the Roof families. You can help in one of three ways. You can be a buddy of a special needs kid, help with the sibling group or, if you want to help but it doesn't work for you to be there, provide a meal for about twenty volunteers. You can do home cooking or purchase dinner. Donated meals will keep our volunteers fueled for the night and help with our budget so we spend money on the kids instead of dinner. Family Night Out is the third Saturday of each month. Volunteers arrive at 4:30. Contact Leah Parsons if you are interested.
Great Adventure at 11:00 is feeling the Squeeze!
Our capacity in the Great Adventure room is 120 kids. Unfortunately we've reached capacity recently at 11:00. When we are out of room we give kids activity bags to keep them busy when they sit in church with their parents but we would much rather have them in Great Adventure with us. So, if it works for your family, come at 9:00am or our new service at 5:00 pm. And, hurry Dock Project so we can be welcoming to more kids!

Men's Fraternity is designed to help men come together and strengthen each other through weekly sessions that combine biblical teaching and small group interaction. Click HERE to sign up.
Beautiful Outlaw Class begins Tuesday, 1.10.12
Brad Gregory, our Men’s Ministry Coordinator will be leading a new 9 week class based on John Eldredge’s new book “ Beautiful Outlaw .“ This fascinating book and study invites us to clear away the religious “fog“ that has clouded our perception of Jesus. This study invites us to look at Jesus in a whole new way. He is the best example of a man we will ever come to know. He was kind and generous. He was humorous and playful. He was angry when facing hypocrisy and self-serving religious leaders.
He is not the bland, one-dimensional stereotypical Jesus portrayed to us whom we can never seem to approach. Come and see Jesus, the real Jesus. Experience a perfect love that defies conventional belief from the Beautiful Outlaw. Click HERE to sign up.
