the journey lent experience

In case you hadn't heard, we introduced Heartland's Journey Lent experience last week. Its goal is to help us discover Jesus in new ways through his journey to the cross (aka the stations of the cross).

If you’re like me, you might be wondering what lent is. Before this project, lent only had two meanings to me. First, that I “lent” someone a tool . . . and it hasn’t returned yet. That’s not what we mean here . . . but I might need to borrow someone’s hedge trimmer?

Second thing I think of when I hear the word lent is, “that religious holiday around Easter where people give things up”. That’s a bit closer to the mark.

Wikipedia defines lent as “a solemn religious observance in the liturgical calendar that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends approximately six weeks later, before Easter Sunday”. Wikipedia goes on to say much more, but let’s shift focus to lent . . . Heartland style.

In our modern day version, we are simply offering verses to read each day, a brief reflection, and some questions to ponder. You can engage with us daily on Instagram or Facebook by following us @hccks.

What we are asking you to give up is a little bit of your time to join us in following Jesus’ journey and what it means to our lives today.

There is no wrong way to engage. You can do it quietly on your own. You can post questions, or share what you are thinking. Grab a couple friends and talk about Jesus’ journey together.

* Cool sidenote . . . we deployed photographers all over the city, and beyond, to capture what these verses and themes mean to them. We will be sharing these images each day, along with reflections written by our team of Journey writers.

We hope you’ll join us,

Adam Pontier
