Seventeen Heartland men shared an adventurous weekend June 27-29. They stretched themselves and pushed beyond their normal limits. They overcame natural fears of heights at The Edge climbing course; fears of enclosed spaces on the Beyond the Gate cave tour; fears of the awesome power of God’s creation on a canoe trip down a flooded river. OK, the river wasn’t all that scary for those of us who didn’t tip over.
It was an amazing feeling to watch guys climb up a pole, stand on top and leap toward their goal - a trapeze suspended twenty feet above the ground. They put their trust in a rope held by a person on the ground. Click here to view.
We crawled through cave passages that were sometimes no more than 24 inches from ceiling to floor, trusting in a guide and a few flashlights. Then at the turnaround point, we sat in TOTAL darkness for several minutes and contemplated God and his wonders.
We floated down a rain swollen river, rescued three people trapped in (or briefly under) the water when their canoes flipped and trusted our human guides when they told us what to do in each tricky situation.
We ended that day talking and laughing about the fun and adventure we had as we pushed ourselves beyond our usual limits. Then we each asked ourselves the question... Click here to read more

The Gathering, Heartland’s young adult community for college and post-college, had a team return from The All Nations House for Babies, in Matola, Mozambique. The team was gone for the first two weeks of June and helped to relieve the house’s staff so that they could have a much needed break. Click here to see the team.
The trip was full of many extraordinary experiences for the team of eight members. They had the opportunity to work with people in a refugee village, participate in hospital outreach, attend the house church, install water for a family, electricity for another family, take in a newly abandoned baby, and care for the children of the two houses in Mozambique. If you are interested in more information and ways to get involved with the work that God is doing in Mozambique, click here to contact Justin Berger.

In the past few weeks, the demolition crew has finished tranforming the once furniture showroom into an empty shell. Carpet, ceiling tiles and light fixtures are being recycled during the process. The front entrance facade is being readied for demolition. In addition, they have begun to experiment with cutting grooves into the face and sandblasting the concrete panels. The photo at the right shows the progress.
A webcam has been installed and can be viewed live by clicking here throughout construction. You will see the empty shell at this time looking northwest from the center of the building. |

| ... “How much do I push myself beyond my normal limits for Jesus? How willing am I to step out boldly or take a leap into the unknown, trusting that he has me covered and will not let me fall? What natural fears do I allow to keep me from experiencing the wild adventure that following Jesus can be?”
Seventeen Heartland men got a small taste of that adventure and came away closer to each other and to Jesus because with his strength, they won the victory. - Michael Maybee |
