Upcoming Serving Opportunities

Heartland Christmas Hearts

There are those within the Heartland community who need help this Christmas. Sunday, December 6th, before and after each service, you can adopt a Heartland family in need by selecting Red Hearts with Christmas wishes from the Christmas tree in the Atrium. You can also make arrangements in advance by contacting Marcia Merrick 913.515.0433. All gifts need to be returned to the church December 13th.

Angel Tree

Angel Tree

The Angel Tree Project is a national outreach program that helps children of incarcerated parents. As a community we will be bring gifts to 100 children in the name of their parents who cannot be with them. It ensures these children won't be forgotten because of a parent's mistakes and that they will hear of God's love for them.

Sunday, December 6th - Angel gift requests will be available for selection during both services, Sunday, December 6th. Come to the Christmas tree in the atrium after each service to make a selection and sign-up. This is a great opportunity for families to take their kids shopping for other kids in need.

Sunday, December 13th - All gifts must be returned to the church.

Sunday, December 13th - All gifts will be delivered to the children.

If you have questions or would like to help deliver gifts contact Liz Sears or leave a message at 913.341.5820 Ext. 375.

Give Your Coat Away This Winter

Q: How many coats does one person need?
A: As many as you can wear at one time ...if you're homeless.

Heartland Singles are collecting winter coats Saturday, December 12 between 8:30-9:30 a.m. in front of the church building. Please bring Men's, Women's and Children's coats of all shapes and sizes.

Safety in Children's Ministry

Nick's Sticker

We are sure you've noticed that the computerized check-in helps us keep your kids safe. We want to make sure only parents go into the Great Adventure and Great Beginnings areas and only parents take kids home. The safety sticker you get at check-in helps us out with that. You can help us help you by wearing your safety sticker. That way the greeter at the door can tell at a glance that you are authorized to go into the Children's Ministry areas. Happy greeter, happy parents, happy kids!

Great Beginnings Resources

Great Beginnings (Infant - K) Parents, check this out! The First Look curriculum we use on Sunday mornings has come out with a cool, new monthly version of Small Talk! Small Talk captures what our kids are learning on Sunday mornings and gives parents creative ideas on how to reinforce those learnings during the week. We hope this will be helpful to you as you help your child discover that their best life awaits them in Christ!

Our volunteers will provide specialized 1-on-1 care for your child throughout the evening. Siblings are welcome and will have the opportunity to hang out with other typical peers. Family Night Out will be held on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 5:30-8:30. Registration for this event is required by noon on the Monday before each session. Day of Mercy: Coat and Cookie Give Away

Imagine sleeping outside in December with only a coat, blanket and some cardboard to keep you warm. I know, I can’t either, but many people are forced to do this. Some do this by choice, some because of bad life choices, and others because of mental illness. Regardless of the reason, God asks us to look out for the least of these. (Mathew 25)

Register to give away coats and cookies at 1 of 5 locations around KC, Lawrence and Independence. We’ll meet at Heartland Community Church Saturday, December 12, 8:30 a.m.

Schedule:

  • 8:30 – 9:30 collect coats
  • 9:30 – 10:00 learn what to do
  • 10:00 – 12:00 go be a blessing

Each team will have a point person to give guidance on location. Collect as many coats as you can. You can register to receive 2 reminder emails to collect and drop coats. See you then.

Sharing Videos

Vimeo

Heartland is now using Vimeo to host our Sunday morning service videos. Here's how one person shared how they use these: " I don't spend a lot of time taking notes in the live service anymore. I find I miss things because I'm focused on my notes and then have to catch up when I'm through. With the videos, I just stay focused on the live message and then review the video later and make my notes. It's Great!

"I send personal messages of things I found especially meaningful to my friends and family who don't go to church with a reason why they might want to see for themselves and a link to your video so that they can see and hear".

It's easy to share a video with a friend or place it on your blog or facebook page. Check it out.
