"Then He said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.'" - Matthew 9:37-38
Through dynamic teaching, compelling worship, key program events and leadership development, Heartland Community Church provides ministry and outreach opportunities for those who might be skeptical, uncomfortable or unfamiliar with church.
Our journey began in June of 1986, when 28 committed believers gathered
together in His name to plant a church — one dedicated to loving, educating,
serving and advancing God's kingdom here in the Heartland. It began small,
with Senior Pastor Craig McElvain teaching from an ironing board-pulpit
in a family's basement on Sunday mornings. Through steadfast prayer, spirit-led
planning and word of mouth, the congregation grew steadily and branched
out to larger venues. In 1990, we formally changed our name to Heartland
Community Church and purchased our current site in Overland Park, Kan.
Always sensitive to individual stages of spiritual growth, Heartland offers a variety of programs and services. Two services on Sunday mornings are targeted toward our primary outreach - the unchurched of our community. We also have Sunday evening services for college-aged singles, as well as Tuesday evening services for more in-depth worship, teaching and monthly communion. In addition to these four services, there are numerous activities, events and learning opportunities. The church also operates Heartland Christian Academy, a home-school education supplement program for grades K-6 that meets once a week with certified teachers.
