This full-time role is a unique opportunity to provide leadership, vision, and growth for Heartland’s ministry to kids and families in Kindergarten–3rd grade. You will be essential in helping children encounter Jesus in meaningful ways and equipping parents and leaders who disciple them through engaging environments and experiences.

Lead Vision and Drive Growth

This isn’t just a teaching role—it’s an opportunity to be a leader of leaders and a ministry builder. We’re looking for someone energized by implementing new ways to grow our ministry to kids in Kindergarten–3rd grade.

Success Looks Like: A thriving, scalable Elementary Ministry where kids encounter Jesus weekly and can’t wait to come back, marked by health and growth.

Cast and Implement Vision: Champion Heartland’s mission and build a 2–3 year plan for holistic growth, setting goals, building strategies, and rallying teams around an inspiring vision.

Grow the Ministry: Implement fresh, engaging ideas through weekly programming, creative offerings, and special events (camps, retreats, family events—your imagination is the limit!).

Develop and Empower Leaders

Your primary focus will be multiplying leaders and creating a robust, joyful volunteer team. You will equip adults to be the front-line disciplers of children.

Build the Culture: Provide ongoing training and resources that strengthen skills, build community, deepen faith, and inspire long-term commitment within your teams.

Recruit & Shepherd: Recruit, equip, and shepherd teams of volunteers, ensuring every child is cared for by a safe, loving, and well-trained leader.

Identify and Empower: Go beyond recruiting by identifying, developing, and empowering key leaders who can own aspects of the ministry and provide coaching and encouragement to others.

Create Engaging, Jesus-Centered Environments

You will be the creative and operational force behind Sunday experiences and outside-the-box initiatives that kids, parents, and families are eager to be part of.

Parent Partnership: Partner with parents as the primary spiritual leaders of their kids by building relationships and providing resources, encouragement, and practical discipleship tools for the home.

High-Quality Programming: Create and oversee weekly Sunday experiences for K–3rd grade that are safe, fun, welcoming, Jesus-centered, and effective for both learning and relationship-building.

Operational Excellence: Own the weekly details, ensuring preparation, communication, and execution are seamless so that volunteers are equipped and environments run smoothly every single week.

Our Story

Back in 1986, a few dozen people gathered in the basement of a home in Overland Park to start a church for their friends who didn’t like church. A lot has changed over the years, but we’ve never stopped showing people what’s possible with Jesus.

We really don’t want anything from you. Instead, we have four specific desires for you.

Our beliefs shape our church’s teachings, culture and direction. And since we’re not into hidden agendas, it’s all right here.
