You’ll get a more updated packing list closer to camp, but in general, you’ll need active clothes/ shoes for 5 days, toiletry items like soap/shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush/paste, your bible and a pen or pencil, bedding for a twin XL mattress, and optional snacks, games, and money for snacks or camp merch.
Your cost includes one meal during the drive there and back, and we will stop a few times for bathroom breaks and snacks (purchased by your student). The camp has merchandise, so if your student wants to buy a t-shirt or another item, we recommend a total of $30-$50.
We’re finalizing the details, but we will have extended travel time to and from Holland, MI. Plan for an early-morning drop-off and pick-up! More details TBA.
We bring our small group leaders to camp! They all attend Heartland, have been through our thorough background check process, and are safe, fun, Jesus-centered adults. Also, our Child Protection Policy ensures that no adult is ever alone with a student in a private space (vehicle, dorm room, etc). We’d love to connect you with your student’s small group leader! If you’d like to meet, email DJ at djt@heartlandchurch.org .
We take steps to ensure everyone can experience camp this summer. Email DJ at djt@heartlandchurch.org with any restrictions so we can work with you to make the necessary arrangements.
We will be staying in the dorms of Hope College. There are two beds in a room sharing a bathroom (shower/toilet). Boys and their adult leaders sleep in separate halls from the girls and their adult leaders. Adults do not room with students. If your student has a specific roommate request, we will do our best to accommodate.
Hope College’s cafeteria provides thoughtful, high-quality, nutritious food and exceptional service, with a focus on sustainability, because we believe food matters. Dietary restrictions and food allergies will be accommodated, but should be communicated at registration via email to DJ at djt@heartlandchurch.org.
Many factors are part of this decision, and parents are often surprised to learn that our events do not pay for themselves. Your cost covers the camp fee, including things like housing and food for 5 days, camp production, speakers, fun, etc. In addition to the camp fee, your cost covers transportation to and from camp (which, for a further-away camp, slightly increases costs this summer) and registration for our adult leaders. Since we ask so much of our small group leaders for the week, some of your cost goes to cover their expenses for attending.
YES! We want to remove every barrier that prevents a student from experiencing camp. Fill out this camp assistance form (5 minutes) to start the process.
Our high school pastor, DJ Toelle is the leader for this event. Contact him at djt@heartlandchurch.org.
