family-style service now available

Every Sunday, 9 AM on the Dock

Join us on Sundays at 9 AM on the Dock for a family-style service. Kids of all ages are welcome to join their families in the service. We will laugh, pray and learn together. When the teaching feed from the auditorium goes live, kids will move to the next room to hear the same teaching content from a different teacher, in kid-friendly language.

We can't wait to see you there!

overflow class: pot, politics race, & aliens

Wednesday, July 20, 7:00-8:30 PM on the Dock

As if it’s not hot enough right now, we thought that – this July, on Wednesday the 20th, we should turn up the heat and dive into 4 pretty important topics: pot, politics, race and aliens.

But instead of asking, “What do you think?” (which could lead to heated conversations), we’re going to offer you a tool that will help you read the Bible to discern what God might say about these matters. We’ll first equip you all together with a tool that will help you better understand the Bible and that you can apply to ANY topic. You can CHOOSE 1 of 4 breakout sessions that most interest you:

  • Pot
  • Politics
  • Race
  • Aliens (Um, aliens? Find out more in Deuteronomy 10:18.)

In fact, that’s what we’re calling this night:  “Pot | Politics | Race | Aliens – What Does The Bible Say?” So come –  Wednesday, July 20th, 7:00-8:30 PM, on the Dock.

Here’s why we’re doing this: Not because we have axes to grind, nor any political agenda (because we don’t). These three topics are important – and in some cases maybe uber-important – but they are not essential to our faith. What is essential is that we learn how to think biblically and integrate the Bible with our real lives and the many questions that swirl around us.

So, come jump into the summer sizzle with us! CLICK HERE to sign up.

{staff updates}

where's nick nave?

If sometime in the weeks ahead you find yourself wondering, “Hey…where’s Nick?”, this is because he’s away, enjoying a greatly deserved sabbatical! Nick wears many hats at Heartland – Creative Arts Director and Worship Leader, among other things…so as you can imagine, the dude could use some rest.

In Nick's absence, the worship team will be led by some pretty amazing folks: Matt Christenot, Mark Van Landingham, and Brenton & Tara Schoenthaler.

Heartland offers full-time staff a 2-month period of planned rest after their first 7 years of service and then every 5 years ensuing. (Because of his years of service as a member of our Management Team, Nick has earned a 3 month sabbatical.)

Sabbaticals are a reward for passionate, faithful service – and they’re designed to allow our staff to completely unplug from the rigor and demands of vocational ministry. (Research has shown that the average pastor lasts only 4 years at their church. One only has to guess the factors: burnout, fatigue, stress, family issues, to name a few. Thus the need for a proactive rest plan that includes a sabbatical and, for that matter, a comprehensive work/life balance.) Far different than a "leave of absence," we consider a sabbatical to be a "leave of presence." It's a time to be uniquely present to God, to our family and friends, and even present to ourselves in a new way. Please join us in praying that God accomplishes such a beautiful work in Nick and his family!

a bittersweet farewell to jenae weinbrenner

As many of you know, our friend Jenae and her family, Doug, Stella and Hudson, are moving back home to the New York City area. We can't help but be excited for their journey, however!

careportal launch at heartland

Weekly Email Opt-In Now Open, Needs Launch on July 20

We are super excited to announce that Heartland is forming a mission partnership with CarePortal to help kids and families in foster care situations in our community.

CarePortal, designed by the Global Orphan Project, is a website that makes complex needs simple. CarePortal connects child welfare workers to the local church, addressing the full range of needs for families in crisis. A qualified need is entered into the system, CarePortal communicates that need (within a 5-8 mile radius from Heartland) to us, and Heartlanders who opt-in to a weekly email are alerted and invited to meet the need.

Heartland will be connecting with CarePortal to meet “Tier 1” needs of families in the foster care system–things like providing cribs, clothing, school supplies and other basics.

We are launching our partnership on July 20 with the first weekly needs email. Between now and then, you will receive a helpful weekly email with information on the CarePortal process, best practices and examples to prepare you for the launch.

CLICK HERE to opt-in now! CLICK HERE to watch a 2-minute video about CarePortal.
