techtalks: reserve your ticket now!

Friday, September 30 & Saturday, October 1 @ Heartland

Technology impacts us in countless ways in this digital world we inhabit. Learning to balance life and relationships in light of technology is critically important to our health and wellbeing.

We are excited to present two special offerings called TechTalks, for people in the KC metro area:

  • Part 1: SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age, a special screening of the documentary about the biggest parenting issue of our time; and
  • Part 2: TechTalks, a keynote and breakout sessions with local experts and educators in human development, clinical therapy, and relationships.

Part 1: SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age

Friday, September 30, 7-8:30 PM

Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that happening with her own kids and began a quest to uncover how it might impact their development. As with her other two award-winning documentaries on mental health, Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and also offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.

CLICK HERE to reserve your tickets now!

Part 2: TechTalks

Saturday, October 1, 9 AM - 12:15 PM

BONUS! Your ticket to the screening of Screenagers also covers Tech Talks on Saturday, October 1. Screenagers come in all shapes and sizes, so we have designed Tech Talks to speak to us, regardless of age and stage of life.

Tech Talks are designed to expand the conversation on the impact of technology in relationships in practical ways. Each Tech Talk, presented by local therapists & educators, will address technology and relational issues from a personal, parenting, teen, next gen or workplace perspective. The overall goal of Tech Talks is to empower us all to relate in healthier ways in a digital age.

Topics and speakers include:

  • Technology & Its Impact On Human Intimacy, Dr. Todd Frye, LCPC, Dean of Behavioral Sciences and Counseling, Midamerica Nazarene University & Valerie Hamaker, PLPC
  • Raising Connected Kids In A Disconnected World, Susan Dunaway, LCPC, Neurotherapist
  • Digital/Dark Ages: Technology in the College and the Workplace Environments, Paul Kyle, Dean of Student Services & Success at Johnson County Community College
  • Technology & Kids: Staying True To Who You Are (for ages 11-18), Michelle Nickloy
